Our distributions with Miss Rodgers’ Neighborhood are by and for South Central. They started in 2020 and have continued without fail every year since. The first distribution was in Compton and eventually moved to The Connect. We get large amounts of recovered produce and grocery items to families in the area. Family First Saturday (FFS) is a revolutionary distribution that gets free groceries (courtesy of Polo’s Pantry) clothing, laundry wash, health services, DACA/Green Card support, referral services and more out to the community. With FFS, we used food as the baseline to build an entire ecosystem of care for South Central in partnership with Miss Rodgers, Aaron Cultural Community Center.
Our relationship with Miss Rodgers started in Skid Row many years ago. As we’ve strengthened our partnership, we have been able to root our collective work even deeper in South Los Angeles. We are profoundly grateful for the love, trust, and respect built over time and the priceless experience of building our food distributions by centering the voices and needs of the community.
