Our monthly distribution in Boyle Heights with Las Fotos Project, a non-profit that mentors teenage girls and gender-expansive youth from communities of color using photography, has been running for over 2 years. The students determine the structure of the distribution, request specific produce items and distribute food with our guidance. They problem solve, connect with their community, and with one another through this partnership.
A couple students were inspired by the distributions they were a part of at Las Fotos Project and formed their own in Highland Park. They plan and organize these distributions through their high school group called Humanities 4 the Homies. The students formed a relationship with a local Highland Park gift shop called Be Nice Have Fun, who host the monthly distributions in front of their store.
